Jayson Tatum Sets Game 7 Record, Leads Celtics to Victory
Boston Celtics Dominate Philadelphia 76ers, Win 112-88
Tatum Explodes for 51 Points, Shattering Game 7 Records
Jayson Tatum erupted for a historic performance in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, leading the Boston Celtics to a resounding 112-88 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on May 14, 2023.
Tatum set a new Game 7 record with a blistering 51 points, eclipsing the previous mark of 49 set by Michael Jordan in the 1993 NBA Finals. The Celtics star shot an efficient 18-of-31 from the field, including 7-of-15 from beyond the arc.
In addition to his scoring outburst, Tatum also contributed 13 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. His all-around dominance proved too much for the 76ers to handle.
The Celtics controlled the game from start to finish, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Boston's defense harassed the 76ers into turnovers and forced tough shots, holding them to just 40.2% shooting from the field.
Joel Embiid led the way for Philadelphia with 24 points and 12 rebounds, but he was largely ineffective against Boston's physical defense. James Harden struggled mightily, scoring only 14 points on 5-of-18 shooting.
With the victory, the Celtics advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will face the Miami Heat. Philadelphia's disappointing season comes to an end, while Boston remains one step away from reaching the NBA Finals.
