Bayer Leverkusen Hit By Doping Scandal
Striker Thomas Brdaric Missed End Of Season To Avoid Drug Ban
Bundesliga Club Faces CAS Hearing Over Reporting Violations
Bayer Leverkusen have been rocked by a doping scandal after it was revealed that striker Thomas Brdaric missed the last three weeks of the season not through injury but to avoid being banned for doping.
The German club are now facing a hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over alleged violations of doping control reporting regulations.
Brdaric, 42, is a former Germany international who has played for Bayer Leverkusen since 2018. He has not featured for the club since April 2.
Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Brdaric missed the end of the season due to a "violation of anti-doping regulations". The club said in a statement: "We are cooperating fully with the authorities and will take appropriate action in due course."
The German Football Association (DFB) has also opened an investigation into the matter.
The news comes as a major blow to Bayer Leverkusen, who finished sixth in the Bundesliga this season and qualified for the Europa League.
The club's reputation has been tarnished by the scandal, and it is unclear how it will affect their future.
