A Joint Survey Reveals New Measurement
8,848.86 Meters Above Sea Level
After a joint survey conducted by China and Nepal, the official height of Mount Everest has been confirmed as 8,848.86 meters (29,031.69 feet) above sea level. This new measurement is slightly higher than the previously accepted height of 8,848 meters (29,029 feet).
The survey was conducted using a combination of GPS and traditional surveying techniques. The results of the survey were announced in a joint statement by China and Nepal on December 8, 2020.
